Stampit blogit

At 9.05 this morning on the 26th of February 2015 it hit me it’s all finally over. Weeks and weeks of work and within minutes it was all finished. Today was the first time we went into mini company class and sat there not organising meetings for stamping, making posters, finishing the report book or talking about what we would say for the presentation. I can’t tell you how content I am to say I don’t have to talk about the same thing every week anymore because on the Thursday before midterm (12th of February) the school competing was on to determine who would be going through the next round.

I was part of team Stampit and our final product was Christmas cards! Alright not the most original idea out there but we personalized them our self and in fairness it was a last resort because we were running low on time because our other ideas wouldn’t work. We personalized the cards by stamping each people’s names on them on the front of them. It sounds stress-free and relaxing but you’d be amazed how much time it actually took to do a few cards.

Our product was one thing we put A LOT of time and energy into but alongside with it we put just as much effort into our report book that was need for the competition. This book contained information about our experience and we all did our bit to get it complete on time. To finish the experience on a high note won best report book and we were all so astonished and very satisfied because we put a considerably amount of effort into it.

I speak on behalf on team stampit when I say it was a fantastic experience and we are all happy to depart from the project. Well done to everyone who competed and big congratulations to the two teams who got through to the next stage!

I was told its not all about winning

Is everyone really a winner?

It’s not all about winning, what counts is taking part and having fun! We've all heard that at some stage of our life. I wonder is it different when you are older and put 10 times more work into winning what do you think? For example the 2015 Oscars are on tonight the 22nd of February and this evening there will be happy and sad faces but at the end of the day everyone is a winner ... i think not! Imagine putting sweat blood and tears into something and being told "not good enough" that's clearly discouraging right? I'm not saying getting to the Oscars and not winning isn't amazing it really is a great achievement but being so close to winning first place in a race and setting a new record but being one second off betting the record. Yes you achieved something (1st place) but failed at the same time. That is what i think it’s like being nominated for an Oscar. Ok i know losing isn't the end of the world but in such a big competition it would be a shame.

At 11.30 on sky movies and sky live the Oscars will be playing and every person watching will be supporting either an actor or an actress something else like a movie or singer but fandoms (is that a real word? well it is in our generation so ill use it!) all across the world will be disappointed and overwhelmed.

There are several movies for an Oscar under the category "best picture" they are American Sniper, Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game, Selma, The Theory of Everything and whiplash. Tonight one will be named the best picture of 2015 and everybody who took part in the other movies will snobbishly congratulate the cast and team.
Want me say who i want to win? Well i cant because I’ve only seen whiplash and yes i loved the story line and thought it was an amazing movie but I’ve heard some great things about all the movies up for the award so i believe it’s an even playing field.

Whiplash is about a first year music student, Andrew Neiman (Miles teller) who wins a seat on a jazz band. He sits behind the drums seeking respect from the teacher, Fletcher (J.K. Simmons) that teaches the band using fear and intimidation to push them to be pure perfection. The story line kicks off when Fletcher is shown to be abusive toward his students, mocking and insulting them! It all begins when he hurls a chair at Andrew for not keeping his tempo, and humiliates him in front of the class.

Did Somebody Say Drama?

After weeks of writing and classes of practice on 29th of January all TYs from st.wolstans and 3 anxious English teacher got on buses filled with random props and traveled to Mullingar to take part in the briery gap drama competition in the Muillingar Art Centre.

The day started with MS. Ward, Alison and myself dragging the high table and chair from room 33 down to the bus. To be honest it was a lot easier than expected but we sure did get some weird looks as the three of us pushed it into the lift and then just abandoned it in reception. After that we went to the hall and the role was called …. Surprise surprise I think we had full attendance for once!!! I guess I spoke to soon when I said “everything is going to go smoothly” when I said this everything was ok, the whole team was in, we had the table and chair, all the makeup and costume were on the bus but at this moment in time table wasn’t on the bus and when we had to put it on we failed miserably! First we almost put it on the wrong bus and then we could lift it to get it so the bus driver had to do it. DEAR READER, DON’T WORRY IT GOT ONTO THE BUS AND ARRIVED TO THE RIGHT PLACE! Next thing we knew we were all sitting in the changing rooms doing our makeup and getting ready to perform (we didn’t go into the wrong rooms because we didn’t know where we were going if that’s what you are thinking)

Our school brought all they had to the stage, we had everything and anything. We showed the judge a mad girl snapping her "so called" best friends neck and thought him about the true harsh reality of child abuse also aimed for tears as a girl died in her mother’s arms from cancer and went back in time to the era of William Shakespeare.
Within seconds lights were up and it all started with “*bang, bang, bang* SILENCE IN THE COURT ROOM, Ruth Gilbert you are on trial for the murder of Kate Whitmore” It was over before we knew it and second later we were off the stage getting feedback and then running to McDonnells for some well deserved food! It all went well but sadly our drama experience is over as we didn’t get through to the next stage.
